"Bill Collectors & Debt"

is a project recorded a while back. I had to break it up into segments to post the files but they are supposed to be in this particular order and linked together to form one continuous piece of work. I didn't have a bass gtr (still need one), But here they are.

Techno Music - I was coerced into doing these for money. They are way too  long (8-22 minutes) to post the entire songs.

So I narrowed them down a bit to taste. These are low quality Mp3's to save space.

My Songwriting

I write about what I know, have experienced, have an opinion on or what's entertaining to me. Sometimes I play drums first and do the rest of tracks around it. Sometimes I do guitar first, sometimes I write the words first. It just depends on the mood I'm in and how I'm inspired. I'm not where I want to be as a songwriter yet, but I believe I'm on the right track. The best advise I can give to new songwriters (from my personal experiences and from what I have learned from others) is to create a marriage between the lyrics and the instrument you use when creating a song. If its easy to remember when you're writing it, and it flows naturally, then it will probably be a catchy song that the music industry and any fans will like. Take your time and do it to please you. You're your own worst critic. After you make a song, let the song rest a day and hear what it sounds like with fresh ears. You'll probably hear more ideas or parts that need upgrading/ adjusting, etc.

I believe also that you should do what makes you feel good. My style has changed since I learned a few things and lost a certain uniqueness once I began to apply what I learned. It has also grown because of learning new tricks, techniques and styles. So don't allow new ideas to ruin your old ones if they have potential. But remember what you did in the past and apply it to the new ideas you have.

I believe that real musicians are a spiritual, philosophical, opinionated and a very vocal group of people, that true musicians are placed on earth by God on purpose to give the world a gift. Music is a relief and an escape for many people. I actually don't know anyone who doesn't like some type of music. Music can make people feel as though they can identify with others in this sometimes mean and cruel world. So, musicians are responsible for other people in a sense (if you want to take it that serious). Songwriters and musicians should be aware of this and understand that what they write can truly affect others in a way that nothing else can. Music is a powerful force and should be respected as such. It is recognized by doctors everywhere to have a therapeutic ability. Do your best at all times and be responsible.

Choosing Guitars...

I think that buying any instrument is an investment of your money and time as a musician and should be chosen carefully. It should inspire you creatively when you play it. If it doesn't inspire you then don't waste your money. I learned from buying a couple guitars and what I thought (was told by others) at the time was a great buy, when in fact turned out to be a piece a crap. I have found that if you're looking for a new instrument, you MUST play it and make sure it suits your playing style and fits you like a glove. You'll know too if you spend a little time on it. Don't allow the salesman or store owner to rush you into anything or make you feel like a loser for wanting to test drive any instrument. It doesn't matter if it's a brand name guitar or not. I have played some badly set up and just plain bad brand name guitars. I don't have a picture because it was a long time ago but one of my favorite guitars was a vintage CORT. Every one laughed at me for saying that it was bad ass, but it was. It blew away the Gibson SG in tone and in action. I love my 1985 Wine Red Gibson SG , but that ugly 70's dark-brown Cort with gold competition stripes was just an awesome guitar. It stayed in tune, had a short very comfortable neck for players like me with short arms and all the notes were easy to reach. I let a so called newbie student that wanted me to teach him gtr borrow it and he sold it for $23.00 to a pawn shop for crack. this was about 11 years ago and I really doubt that its out there still for me to recover it. It probably ended up on some punk stage as a beater and got whooped at the end of a show and thrown at the audience or trash. Live and Learn.

Knowing your instrument

Another favorite guitar that I have is a no name stratocaster copy. It was made in the 70's (probably a Cort but have no certain idea of the maker) and I wouldn't be able to sell it for $50.00 if my life depended on it. But it sure has that cutting edge tone, great action and comfort. I had to replace the  neck (luckily a good friend gave one to me) and paint the body (needs to be redone, I'm no pro) it plays awesome. I wouldn't give it up unless I had too. Some kid from around town gave it to me in pieces because I gave him a few lessons. It was my first project guitar. I would suggest that if you're going to invest a lifetime of playing the guitar (and have the time and money), you should purchase a "kit" guitar. Its the whole guitar in pieces. You will need to shape the headstock yourself. I suggest also in purchasing some better pickups than the ones that come with the kit as they are usually very low quality. But it's worth your time and effort if you have the opportunity to learn the basics of your instrument. Setting it up, installing the wiring and placing the P'ups in,  fine tuning the intonation and seeing how it all works is something you will never forget if you do it yourself. Occasionally I see a few listed on eBay for under $100.00 including shipping. You can also find a decent cheapie guitar somewhere and take it down and rebuild it yourself. You'd be amazed at how easy it is and you'll learn your guitar better. Just about any guitar will be in need of having it set up for your comfort. Definitely when buying one from a music store, demand that the shop sets it up for you. Whether you pay $100.00 or $5000.00 for it. Have it set up and restrung with new strings, the size strings that you are used to playing.

My musical influences

These bands/musicians have had the most influences in my guitar playing and songwriting. Not because of who they are or what they believe, but what they do or did with their music.

1.    David Gilmour ( Pink Floyd)                    8.    The Beatles                                           15.    Guns 'n' Roses

2.    Jimmy Page ( Led Zeppelin)                      9.    Duane Allman                                      16.    The Temptations

3.    Lynyrd Skynyrd                                        10.   U2                                                         17.    Most Motown stuff

4.    Eric Clapton                                            11.    John Mellencamp                                  18.    Journey

5.    Stevie Ray Vaughan                                12.    Tom Petty                                             19.    Aerosmith
