Colocasia Red Stem Taro

Colocasia Esculenta Red Stem Taro - Cold Hardy to Zone 7! - These striking Burgundy/Maroon, Red Stemmed Colocasias grow to about 5-6 feet tall with huge blue-green leaves and like rich, moist soil, warmth and humidity. The newest leaves are brighter green turning darker as they mature. Some stems begin light green then go through a bright red phase as they mature to their final deep rich color. They are a perfect bog plant and certainly add color and character to your land or aqua-scape. They will stick out like a sore thumb among the green plants. Mixed in with a colorful arrangement of plants, they will add that certain something that may seem to be missing. They look great with blue stemmed taro (Xanthosoma Violaceum) or the Nancyana, (aka.) Nancy's Revenge. They will bring out the best in your arrangement no matter where you place them. These are hardy plants that can live in full sun to shade and are unlike any other colocasia variety! Like most other colocasias, they tend to set themselves deep into the soil when growing and some do form a tuber and some do not. It depends on the plant's mood I guess. Either way, if you have these magnificent deep red stemmed elephant ears and you live in weather that drops a little below freezing for short periods at a time, these plants should do very well for you and come back as soon as the weather warms up. They will be among the first to show signs of life when the weather does warm up and will also begin growing from where they left off. If you live in colder regions, they can be brought indoors for the winters and placed back outside when its safe.
