Japanese Loquat Tree (Eriobotrya Japonica) - Zones 7a-11. A Very fast growing evergreen, cold hardy, frost hardy and a beautiful shade tree known for its yellow-orange sweet edible plum fruit and beautiful long, large and wide dark green leaves. The fruit clusters two - three times yearly and the blossoms make beautiful white fragrant flowers attracting butterflies and birds. The leaves are wide and long and provide shade for the yard. These great trees grow extremely fast and with proper fertilization will shade the piece of property in no time. They like full sun to partial shade but is best to plant them in full sun to reach optimal size. These young trees listed here should be 5-10 feet tall or taller by the end of next growing season and should be fruiting the following year. They prefer partially filtered light but will grow well in full sun. Fully mature tree can grow to 30 feet tall and 20 ft wide. Every home should have a couple of these. Kids love to pick and eat their tasty fruit! I always did and still do.
