Musacae - Edible Bananas!

Musa Thai Black Banana Plant

Cold Hardy Balbisiana Banana with dark purple black Stems!

Musa Thai Black Balbisiana - Zones 7-10  - Cold Hardy This somewhat newly introduced banana plant is very interesting and is why we have it available. The leaves are more thin than other musa and the pseudostem is on the thin side also. The colorful pseudostem is a rich, deep purple almost black in appearance and this one can be welcomed by the same who want a tropical look in the colder climate. It is said to be a cultivar of the Musa Balbisiana. Sharing the characteristics of cold tolerance, rapid growth and ease of care this one should prove to become a popular favorite among collectors. it grows rapidly to heights of about 18 feet tall. I would plant this in an area that will be somewhat protected from heavy winds if possible. This is well into your second story roof! I am not sure what the blooms appearance is but given its  characteristics, I would assume large and beautiful.
