Musacae - Edible Bananas!

Musa Red Iholene Hawaiian Banana Plant

Once only allowed to be owned by Hawaiian Royalty!

Musa Red Iholene Dessert - Zones 8-10  - Cold Hardy and another outstanding Edible and Highly ornamental banana with bright pink markings on the pseudostems, fruit bracts and the leaves are burgundy colored underneath with the young leaves showing the cavendish red splotches until they older. I really cant rave enough about the beauty of this Hawaiian cultivar! Grows to heights of 12-14 feet tall and produces some of the most sweetest edible fruit you've ever tasted! The taste compares in flavor ranking to the ladyfinger and the plant itself is much more beautiful! These are like all bananas and are very fast growing, but are one of the fastest maturing banana cultivars out there. In early days, this plant was only allowed to be grown and eaten by royalty. Good thing were past those times now. Can be grown in a container or placed directly in the ground. Best results for fruit are when they are planted in the ground rather than in a container. This one ranks in beauty in the top four in my opinion. No landscape should be without a Red Iholene Banana plant! As you can probably tell, it is one of my favorites!
