One of the most favorite Bananas Known - Baby Bananas Lady Finger Banana - Hardy to zone 7- 11 - Cold hardy to 15ºF, Wind Tolerant, Ornamental. Some call these "Baby Bananas", or simply "lady finger" banana due to its short size. Ours survived the rare winter 2002-03 here in Florida where the temps dropped down to 11-13 degrees for four nights straight and the highs were in the low 40's. The leaves were melted, but they readily sprang fourth when the weather warmed. Some didn't lose their leaves that were protected under the oak hammock. Very cold hardy from Samoa, this Ladyfinger cultivar produces a delicious, seedless, small, sweet, plump, yellow, thin skinned fruit. Offsets or "Pups" should grow after the first year and each pup will produce fruit. The pups should be removed to allow each individual plant a chance to grow large and fast and produce better fruit. Each hand should produce about 40 + 60 bananas when properly cared for. Height to 16' tall with wide dark green leaves outlined in red trim. They are used in desserts around the Pacific and where ever else known and grown. Try them! you wont be able to eat just one! Leaves should grow during the summer months at a rate of one leaf per week in optimal conditions. This cultivar is a variety that dates back to the Balbisiana hybrids. They do not display at time in their life the painted reddish markings on the upper side of the leaves similar to that found on a hybrid of the Acuminata varieties and that places them in the AAB. Excellent Dessert Banana!
