Alocasia Robusta |
Sarawak - Largest undivided Leaf in the World!
Alocasia Robusta (Sarawak) - Still quite Rare in American cultivation, this is the legendary GIANT of Borneo has THE largest undivided leaves in the world of any other plant. Second only to the Alocasia Macrorrhiza Borneo Giant variety. These were probably around when the dinosaurs roamed the earth as they fed on the foliage. It would certainly make an excellent snack for those herbivores. These have recently been tissue cultured to bring them out the brink of extinction and now are available for your collection! They are small yet but should prove to be steady growing to their massive size! See picture above as a man stands under its enormous leaves! They grow to heights of 25 feet! These are faster growing than some reports say and you will be well satisfied with watching grow to its maximum potential. We have uploaded a care sheet to provided you with more detail on how to keep it maintained to optimal health. They are a little finicky as described by many enthusiasts but it isn't impossible to grow. What you need is to protect it from cold weather below 40 degrees and dampness. despite that it supposedly comes from an area of the world where the soil is continually moist, they seem to succumb to root rot easier than most other plants I've grown. So you should water them as needed. If the plant looks perky and is growing a new leaf regularly, I would wait to water again. The soil should not be completely dried out however to where the roots begin to desiccate. This will not be good for any plant.
