. 2006 New Plant Introduction! Alocasia Infernalis 'Kapit' - Zones 8 and up. Alocasia Infernalis is a newly introduced (to us collectors) plant and is sure to be a favorite. There is not much information on this one yet. The leaves are deep deep burgundy undersides with very dark green to black with hints of deep red upper. Some of the coloration can show lighter shades of red while leaves mature. I believe the plants grow to about 2-3 ft tall and sit on proportionate stems. Since the pigmentation is very dark and the plant is a smaller variety, I would guess that it makes a great indoor specimen in bright enough light. We have them growing in bright shade with an occasional burst of direct sun under the oak hammock. Since it is a new introduction and it is an Alocasia, it's a safe to bet that it can take zone 8 climates. yet, again since it is small, it can be container grown and brought inside during rough weather or placed strategically in your garden keeping it portable in the pot. The stem or trunk like portion grows taller as the plant matures and will place the leaves higher into its atmosphere. This is certainly an obscure, small, but wonderful houseplant addition to your arrangement. Collectors Choice!
