These Elephant Ears Grow to Gigantic Sizes! Alocasia x Odora var. "azurea" - Cold Hardy Zone 7b - Very Rare! Another huge growing plant from tropical rain forests of Asia. It is thought to be an odora variety yet it lacks the speedy growth of the green Alocasia Odora. This plant grows its leaves 3-5 feet long on stems (leaf petioles) that reach 6+ ft in its natural habitat. The thick stems become a maroon-purple-blueish color. The leaves are an olive green color that become puckered with age. These plants are easy to grow and like well drained, well fertile organic soil but can stand more soil moisture than some other harder to grow alocasias. This Alocasia is very easy and should not give you any trouble at all. The Asian local natives believe the Alocasia Azurea to be a powerful lung cancer cure by eating the cooked stems, but Central Florida farms does not recommend consumption of this plant for any reason. These are slower growing than other Alocasia species, but well worth the wait. I believe this hardy mammoth growing sized elephant ear plant will be another wonderful addition to your garden or plant collection! Feed your gardening addiction! Rare and Hard to Find in Cultivation!
